Pen & Ink - Plaice & Mackerel

Commission to produce two pen & ink illustrations to be displayed in a modern refurbished kitchen.  The client specified one image of a Plaice and one of a Mackerel.  This is in a sense a work in progress, I have frozen this image at this point as I intend to produce some prints.  The client wants me to continue and add colour in a very sparing manner.  My intention is to use coloured ink to fill in the fishs markings and eyes.  Once this is done I will upload the final image as well.
Here it is, the colour version.  I find it remarkable that the addition of such a small amount of colour can make such a striking difference to the final image!  I used coloured indian ink so the colours also have a translucent and slightly glossy finish which I think adds against the flat of the watercolour paper and matt black rotring ink. Either way my client is happy and so am I!  On with the Mackerel illustration now!
...and now Mrs Mackerel.  Pair complete.  Customer happy and so am I!  These are A4 at original size and will be going in oversize (but plain mounts) frames.

...a few more in progress views...apologies for the sepia tint, photographed with a mobile phone!
